Frederick "Fritz" Steinbrecher was born in 1888 and received a B.Phil from the University of Chicago in 1913. He played for the University baseball team during its first trip to Japan in 1910. Between 1910 and 1936, the University of Chicago and Waseda University baseball teams hosted each other at five year intervals.
